What is Dermaplaning?

Dermaplaning, Epidblading or Epidermal Levelling, is fast becoming the most popular non surgical facial procedure in Perth. Dermaplaning is a physical exfoliation of the skin.

At Pure Aesthetic our Dermaplaning Facial Treatment is performed using a sterile surgical blade to gently exfoliate the skin. It removes the outer layer of dead skin cells, along with fine facial hair commonly known as ‘peach fuzz’ or vellus hair. The treatment removes the hair gently and safely without stimulating hair growth.

Frequently Asked Questions

Professional Dermaplaning is suitable for most skin types. This treatment may not be ideal for clients with hypersensitive skin, skin conditions like Rosacea, or significant skin concerns like extensive wrinkling, age spots, or sun damage, which are often better addressed by a more intensive treatment.

Dermaplaning is also an option for acne-prone skin, providing the Acne is not active at the time of the treatment.

Dermaplaning is not suitable for clients who present with any of the following conditions:

  • Active acne
  • Bleeding disorders
  • Diabetes
  • Skin Cancers, Cold Sores/Herpes, Keloid Scarring or Eczema
  • Seborrhoeic Keratosis or Seborrhoeic Hyperplasia
  • Certain medications such as Accutane

There is little to no downtime associated with Dermaplaning. Your skin may be sightly red, tight or tingly straight after your Dermaplaning treatment but this will usually subside within a few hours. Some clients may experience dryness in the days following the Dermaplaning treatment, this is due to cellular turnover. We recommend you moisturinse morning and night with your prescribed moisturiser to keep you skin hydrated. Avoid direct sunlight for at least 72 hours. Wearing a SPF 30+ is an essential part of post treatment care.

Dermaplaning removes “peach fuzz” also known as Vellus hair. You can not change the structure of the hair follicle by simply shaving the hair off at the skins surface.

Hair will grow back in about 3-4 weeks but it does not grow back any thicker or any darker. We avoid Dermaplaning the upper lip as this is a hormonal area and the hair can grow back spikey. Instead we remove the hair with a gentle wax, this is included in the cost of your treatment.

At Pure Aesthetic we recommend having your Dermaplaning treatment done every 4 weeks. Your Therapist will help you decide on an appropriate treatment plan. With commitment to regular appointments and a good skincare routine at home to enhance your results your skin will remain smooth, healthy and glowing for years to come.
